Совместный проект Samsung и Intel продолжает жить, о чем свидетельствует начавшаяся рассылка прототипов устройств с новой ОС разработчикам. Факт рассылки подтверждается записями об импорте устройств под обозначением Samsung SM-Z9005, предназначенных для исследований и разработки.

В таблице не сказано, что Samsung SM-Z9005 работает под управлением ОС Tizen. Однако такая информация есть в исходном тексте GitHub, где строка «SM-Z9005 prototype» соседствует с кодовыми именами Melius и Redwood, под которыми устройства с ОС Tizen то и дело «светятся» в новостях .

For a very brief few minutes on Friday you may have noticed some Google services, most notably search, appeared to be down. If not, maybe you noticed the ensuing freak-out across Twitter and the rest of the Internet.

At first glance the flash outage was little more than an opportunity for a few good one-liners and a chance to actually stand up from the keyboard and walk around for a few minutes. If we had connected nanobots floating around in our bloodstreams, certainly they would have registered a worldwide uptick in caffeine intake during those few moments.

Apple's mid-2011 iMacs.

Apple has reportedly begun a new program to replace faulty graphics cards found in some mid-2011 to late-2012 iMacs.

The new replacement program, which was reported by 9to5Mac, affects systems with AMD Radeon HD 6970M video cards. Those were found in the 27-inch iMac models with either the 3.1 or 3.4GHz quad-core Intel i-series chips.

According to support language, the video cards could fail "causing the computer display to appear distorted, white or blue with vertical lines, or to turn black." Apple has listed 13 different possible serial number suffixes that are a part of that group, which are eligible for the replacement.

That iteration of iMac was sold between May 2011 to October 2012.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the program, which is not posted to its support site, though was reportedly sent to Apple Support employees on Friday.

Contrary to popular thinking, Google doesn't always get its way when it comes to all things Internet -- at least, not if the latest pronouncement from ICANN is any indication.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the organization in charge of a major overhaul of Internet addresses, ruled this week that it's passed a resolution prohibiting so-called dotless domain names, essentially putting the kibosh on Google's plans for a dotless "http://search" domain.

Researchers have once again pulled a fast one on Apple's app approval process, getting malware onto the App Store to prove it's still a possibility.

A group of researchers from Georgia Tech developed an app that masqueraded as a news reader that would phone home to reprogram itself into malware -- something that was apparently not picked up in Apple's security screening procedures, reports the MIT Technology Review.

Once configured remotely, the software was able to do things like send texts, e-mails, post Tweets, take pictures, dial phone numbers, and even reboot the system.

Apple only ran the app for a few seconds during its testing process, the researchers said. And once published to the App Store, the researchers quickly removed it after they were able to successfully install it on their phones.

In what's said to be the first ever case of cat hair helping to catch a U.K. killer, scientists in Britain worked using a cat DNA database to identify cat hair found on a corpse.

As the Associated Press reports, the dismembered torso of David Guy was found stuffed in bag on a beach in July 2012. The Hampshire police worked hard to match the cat hair found around Guy's body with a cat that belonged to a suspect, David Hilder.

But the DNA drawn from the cat hair was mitochondrial DNA, and lots of cats share this DNA.
